School Meals

School Meals

At Micklem Primary School feel that a system that works best is a ‘zero tolerance’ approach. We understand that it may seem a very hard stance as there has been a country-wide culture of debt tolerance. However, it will become easy to maintain once parents realise schools can only offer free meals to children whose parents qualify for FSM or UIFSM entitlement. Every other meal must be paid for.

We request that all parents give this policy their full support.  If debts are incurred, the school has to pay for the meals eaten.  This means that money which should be spent on the children’s education has to be used for debts incurred by parents.

Key Information

1. All school lunches must be paid for in advance either through Wisepay or via the school office

2. No child should be sent to School with no money in their account and expect to be given a meal

3. Where a debt has accrued amounting to £23.00 (10 meals), if this is for siblings this is the total including all siblings, parents will be asked to provide packed lunches from home until the debt has been cleared

4. Parents who do not want their child to have a school meal should provide a healthy packed lunch

UIFSM - Universal Infant Free School Meals

From September 2014 all Reception and KS1 children are entitled to free school meals. In order for your child to be entitled to free school milk you must be entitled to benefit related free school meals and must make an application as detailed below.

FSM - Free School Meals

However did you know that if you are entitled to benefit related free school meals the school receives extra funding?  This funding can make a real difference to the children's lives and attainment in school.  If you are eligible for benefit related free school meals this does not mean your child has to take meals everyday at school (although we would encourage every child to have a hot lunch).  If you are in receipt of a qualifying benefit please make an application.  Your child may also be entitled to other educational benefits.  For further information please visit the link at the bottom of this page or phone 0300 123 4084 between 8:00 am and 8:00 pm Monday to Friday, or between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm Saturday.
