Maintained schools in Hertfordshire are now responsible for the admissions to nursery. Schools are working together to ensure the process is the same in each school and that parents receive consistent information that will enable them to make informed decisions about their preferred nursery school.
Please see below for Micklem Primary School's nursery admission policy and the nursery application form, which should be completed and returned to the school office.
Please note that although there are 3 key dates for Nursery applications, if you are making an In-year application and we have spaces, we are able to admit any child to our nursery at any point in the year
providing they are already three before the start of a new term. Please see the table below:
My child is born between: | My child can have a place in nursery: |
1 April - 31 August | The start of term beginning on or following 1 September after their third birthday |
1 September - 31 December | The start of term beginning on or following 1 January after their third birthday |
1 January - 31 March | The start of term beginning on or following 1 April after their third birthday |
Update on offer
We are pleased to inform you that as of January 2025, we are offering 30 free hours to our eligible Nursery children as well as opening up our Breakfast Club and After School Club to Nursery children.
School Day
We want to support our parents to have an easy pick-up and drop-off process for children that have siblings in the rest of the school, therefore the Nursery provision is 9am until 3:00pm. These timings will allow parents to drop-off/pick-up their children from Nursery after and before walking around to drop off or collect their older children.
In order to support a positive learning environment with as little disruption as possible for all of our learners, we will be offering 15 hours or the full day. If your child is accessing 15 hours, their day will be 9am until 12pm.
School Lunches
You can order a school lunch for your child for £3.45 per day. There are four options everyday, and these can be pre-ordered through Arbor. Children who are accessing 15 hours, can join the lunch club for a daily rate of £4.50, extending their day to 12:45pm.
Match School Day
We are able to match the school day in our nursery for a small fee of £3.00 per child per day. This will mean that your child will be able to start at the same time as our school which is 8:45am and stay until the end of the school day 3:15pm.
Charges:
Due to the extended time, sessions will be charged at £3.00 per child per day.
Wrap around care
Breakfast Club will be offered from 7:30am to 8:45, children will be served a light breakfast until 8am. They will then access a range of activities. Children that attend Breakfast Club will be taken to the Nursery classroom at 8:45am. These sessions will be charged at £4.50 per child and £3.50 for pupil premium eligible children. Parents must speak to Miss Mackie to discuss the suitability for their child.
After School Club bookings are also available, for more information please go to Wrapround Care section: https://www.micklem.herts.sch.uk/wrap-around-care/
Payment of additional fees
All payments will be taken through Arbor in advance, these include:
For those not eligible for 30 free hours, but are wanting to take up this provision, the additional 15 hours per week will be charged at £6 per hour. As we are only offering 15 or 30 hours, the weekly rate is £90 per week for the additional hours and this must be paid in full for the whole of the half term in advance.
30 free hours eligibility
For up to date information on eligibility please visit:
Hertfordshire County Council: Childcare and advice for parents
It is your responsibility to apply for 30 hours free childcare via the online HMRC eligibility checker. Parents will receive an eligibility voucher code if they are eligible which they will be told to show to their chosen provider. To check that the eligibility voucher code is valid (which is 11 numbers long) the school will input this code, parents national insurance number and child’s date of birth into the Early Years Portal. Parents will need to reconfirm their details on the HMRC eligibility checker every three months in order to continue to qualify.
Leaving the Nursery or reducing Nursery Hours
