Welcome to Micklem Nursery Class

EYFS Lead: Mrs Stokley

Lead Early Years Practitioner: Miss Mackie

Early Years Practitioner: Miss O'Shea

Teaching Assistants: Miss Watson, Mrs Rose

At Micklem Nursery, we have a lovely classroom and a big, open outdoor area. We learn both inside and outside whatever the weather. We model and implement our school rules; Be Kind, Show Respect, Aim High.

Every morning, we enjoy a 'Magic Breakfast' of toast or bagels. We prepare a healthy snack of fruit and/or crackers. If you would like your child to have milk, please inform the office.

Water Bottles

Please could you provide your child with a named water bottle, which can be refilled each day at school.

Coat and Wellington Boots

Your child needs a named coat and wellington boots that can be left in school in their boot basket. This means that they can use the sand pit and mud kitchen as well as the rest of our outdoor area, especially on rainy days!

Our Learning

Within our learning, we enjoy exploring practical ways to improve your child's development. We are using 'Spread the Happiness' to implement all areas of EYFS through the love of reading. We participate in daily Busy Fingers and 'Dough Disco' sessions to help progress our fine motor and writing skills. 'Squiggle Me into Numbers' explores numbers and counting through practical activities. All areas are reinforced through enhancements in our Child Initiated Learning "Explore and Learn".

PE

As well as enjoying physical activities including movement, bikes, scooters, climbing equipment within our Explore and Learn, we have a designated PE lesson every Tuesday morning.

Forest School

We are very lucky to have a Wildlife Area and take as many opportunities as we can using this outdoor resource. Mrs Haynes will lead Forest School for EYFS every Tuesday afternoon.

Library Books

We implement the love for reading throughout our learning opportunities, and we would love for this to continue at home for the children to improve their own story telling and to make predictions about what could happen next. Your child will bring a school library book home on a Friday, please read together and return the following Friday for your child to choose a new book.

We will be setting up Tapestry this week so please look out for your confirmation email to verify your account so you can start seeing your child's learning journey.

If you have any questions or concerns about your child or their learning, please see me at the start of the day.  If it is not a 'quick fix', an appointment can be made for you.

I am delighted to be teaching your child this year and cannot wait to introduce them to the foundation stage at Micklem Primary School.

Kind Regards,

Miss Mackie

Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

At Micklem we follow the Statutory Guidance for the EYFS.

This sets out seven areas of learning for children from birth to five.

Three areas are particularly important for building a foundation for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, forming relationships and thriving.

These are the prime areas:

• communication and language

• physical development

• personal, social and emotional development

Providers must also support children in four specific areas, through which the three prime areas are strengthened and applied.

The specific areas are:

• literacy

• mathematics

• understanding the world

• expressive arts and design

(DfE September 2021)

We plan activities and experiences in order to meet the requirements of the Educational Programmes
