Welcome to Year 1!
I am delighted to be teaching in Year 1 this year at Micklem Primary School. The children have made a great start to the academic year and I can't wait to see how they progress throughout the year. In Year 1, we are joined by Mrs Waterton, Miss Pynaert and Miss Mackie. All staff have different roles throughout the year to support all the children as much as possible, demonstrating our three school values: Be Kind, Show Respect and Aim High. Please ensure your child is coming into school in the correct uniform with items labelled, reading book, reading record and coat.
In Year 1, we have lots of High Hopes for the children throughout the year. Each child will have a fluency reading book, as well as the opportunity to use and take a library book home, which will be chosen by the children themselves. Fluency books will be changed every Wednesday, if read 3 times or more. Please make sure you are trying to Aim High and read with your child as much as you can at home to have the High Hope of them becoming a fluent reader and adults at home signing their reading log. It's incredibly important to not only listen to your child read, but also ask them questions about the book to see if they understand the story and certain vocabulary.
Homework will be completed on Google Classroom. It will be set on a Wednesday and due on the following Tuesday. Please let me know if you have any problems accessing the homework. Each child has their own individual log in details (attached to their reading logs) as well as a login for Spelling Shed. Homework will consist of reading and spelling activities set around their Phonics knowledge and Hope to be enjoyable for the children to complete at home. Also, every child will have a chance to use Times Table Rock Stars and Numbots, with their login details yet again stapled to the inside of their orange reading log.
PE in Year 1 is currently on Tuesdays and Fridays. Please ensure that your child has a full PE kit in school on these days to enjoy a range of sporting activities with High Hopes of creating a passion for sport. We will taking part in Forest school during Autumn 2 and Summer 1.
If you need any further information or have any questions, please catch me at the start or the end of the day. If an emergency, please contact the school office.
A big thank you as always,
Miss Durrant
