Year 6

And the Journey begins...

Welcome to Year 6!

Welcome to year 6. Myself, Mrs Potts, Mrs Wheeler King and Mr Willis look forward to working with both parents and of course the children this year.  We have lots of exciting things to look forward to this year, including some great trips.

Year 6 is very much focused around the end of year tests, but it is my responsibility to make the year as enjoyable as possible, whilst maintaining a high level of education for each and every child.

High expectations of each child are in place and homework is of high importance to help prepare the pupils for secondary school.  The homework timetable consists of regular, daily reading and two detailed pieces including one for Maths and one for English.  Home work will be written in the pupils 'Homework Diaries' each day and parents will be expected to initial the reading homework each day to indicate that the child has read.  The homework timetable is set out in the very first page of the pupils Homework Diary.

Our topic for the Spring Term is to be based around Geography, The Hobbit, and our Leavers Production.  We will be working as hard as ever right up until the end of term.  The pupils still have plenty of time to continue to make good progress.   Reading diaries still need to be signed each day.  Please encourage the children to be reading on a daily basis.  I have provided them with copies of the first few chapters of 'The Hobbit'  they can read this for their reading homework. All pupils have worked extremely hard and I still expect the same of them right up until our last day together.  The sad fact is, we only have 35 more school days until the current Year 6 leave :(

Mr Lloyd - Year 6 Teacher/Deputy Head

I just wanted to say a massive congratulations and 'Well Done' to year 6 for their amazing effort, hard work and energy they put into their SATs.  As a school we are extremely proud of them.

The hard work and exciting learning does not end there!  We have begun several new topics, including that of 'The Hobbit'.  The children have some wonderful activities lined up to keep them learning right up until the summer holidays.  WE have the World Cup fast approaching too, where we will be studying the country of Greece within Geography Week in June.

Not too far away we also have a year 6 end of year production.  I am not giving too many clues away but I have some fun and comedic ideas in store.

Next Stop... The New forest for our Year 5 and 6 School Journey.

Please can I ask that the year 6 pupils read the next two chapters of the Hobbit over the May Half Term?  This will be the only homework I am setting them.

EXCITING NEW LEARNING

Please can I ask that parents encourage the pupils to use the Espresso Website to aid revision for the Upcoming SATs.   Espresso covers all of the main topics - including the new grammar paper - and it is a fun and interactive way for the pupils to learn about new things.  If you would like the pupils login details please do not hesitate to speak to me.   I have added a link to Espresso at the bottom of the Year 6 page.

Thank you

Mr Lloyd
