Forest School at Micklem

Building self-esteem

Forest Schools support the development of the whole child in all aspects of healthy development. Forest School aims to promote the holistic development of all involved, fostering resilient, confident, independent and creative learners. Forest School offers learners the opportunity to take supported risks appropriate to the environment and to themselves.  (Forest School Association)

Our intent for children experiencing Forest School at Micklem is to support children to build esteem and experience success beyond the classroom walls.   We believe that this will then impact in the classroom.

Miss Evans is our Forest School Leader and completed her training in October 2021.  Forest School is part of our wellbeing strategy. Our ambition is for every year group to experience an introduction to Forest School before summer 2022.  Forest Schools is also used to support children as part of our nurture interventions.

The implementation of Forest Schools will be developed overtime.  All children are accessing Forest School at the same starting point.  Forest School is holistic and child centred, following their interests as the sessions develop.  The impact will be measured using our JIGSAW REST (Resilience and Engagement Scale and Toolkit).
