Learning, achieving, working together

Nursery

Welcome to Micklem Nursery Class.

Your teachers are Mrs Rawson and Miss Edmonds every day and Miss Reynolds on Fridays.

  • We plan for the children's learning by closely observing their interests and planning activities to meet their needs and encourage them to meet their next steps in their development.

  • We enjoy learning outside every day, whatever the weather so please help us by making sure your child has wellie boots that stay at school and a good warm waterproof coat. We also provide waterproof trousers and jackets. In really cold weather please provide a hat and gloves.

  • Can we also ask that all children have a spare change of clothes including socks, which are kept in a bag on their peg for any accidents or messy play!  Please name all items.

  • On Tuesdays and Thursdays we encourage the children to borrow a book to take home from our classroom book corner. However you may borrow a book whenever you wish.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

The Early Years Foundation Stage is organised into seven areas of learning;

-Communication and Language

-Physical Development

-Personal, Social and Emotional Development

-Literacy

-Mathematical Development

-Understanding the World

-Expressive Arts and Design

At Micklem we ensure we provide a well balanced play based curriculum, covering all areas of learning through child initiated and adult lead activities.

In order to track the children's learning and development we use an online Learning Journal called 'Tapestry'. Once the App is downloaded, parents have access to their child's online journal, they can add photographs and comments themselves and receive regular updates.  We work closely with parents to assist in setting up the app and accessing their children's journal.

Themes

As we plan according to the children's interests we do not plan topics in advance but on a weekly basis.
