Primary School

Learning, achieving, working together

Year 5

I hope your child has been enjoying settling into year 5 – we have an exciting year planned, packed full of interesting topics and learning.

TOPIC – our topic this term is the Ancient Greeks.  We really enjoyed our Ancient Greek day, especially the food and the Olympics.

TRIPS – you should have had a letter about a trip to the British Museum at the end of the month.  We’ve also got several PE trips and competitions coming up.  Please let me know if you would like to help on any of these trips.

PE - We have swimming every Thursday and PE on a Friday.  Please make sure you send named PE kits into school.

Cloakroom -  There is not much space in the Portacabin cloakroom.  Please try to send the smallest bag possible, with only the things children need for the day.

Homework - Our first homework of the year will come home next Wednesday to be handed in on Monday 24th September.  Homework will be of a similar format to last year, but I might set some slightly larger topic tasks that will cover more than one week.

Reading – Please keep reading with your children or talking to them about their independent reading.  This is such an important way of keeping them learning and will really prepare them for secondary school.  There is space to record their reading in their pupil planner or if you’re worried about them losing this we can give them a yellow reading record.

We look forward to working with your children this year.  If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to be in touch.

Mr. Cuthbert, Mrs. Dowling and Mrs. Brown

On our first day of the term, we found out what we were going to learn and made these web images about the new year:
