Year 4

Welcome to Year 4

Key info:

PE Day - Wednesday

Homework set on Wednesday and due back on Monday

Reading records - Friday

Expectations:

Homework - Homework is set every Wednesday.  It consists of spellings to practise (there are suggestions of how to do this), a task to complete on Mathletics, talk homework to prepare for Friday's Big Write and an open ended task to complete based on our topic learning.  Homework is due in on Monday.

Reading - All children have a book from the Year 4 library to read and can now get a book from the school library too.  One of these should be coming home regularly with a reading record.  Please make sure your child is either reading to an adult at home or reading independently and discussing it with an adult.  Please sign their record when they have read and they can get certificates and end of term goodies.

This term, Year 4 are learning about

the Middle Ages.

We enjoyed our trip to a Norman Motte and Bailey castle in Mountfitchet.

Last term, year 4 were learning about

Europe:

We started the term by looking at the work of one Europe's most famous artists (Van Gogh).
Then we used the colours and style of his painting Starry Night to create our own landscapes:

We also practised our persuasive writing by writing travel adverts for European holiday locations

We've written letters to our new Swedish penpals.  We can't wait for them to write back with news of life in Sweden!

Mr. Cuthbert, Mrs. Potts and Year 4 have been enjoying learning about

THE ANGLO-SAXONS

Designing and making Viking boats

Estimating and measuring capacity in maths.

READING - Stuck for ideas of what your child could read next?  David Walliams and Tom Gates have proved to be popular choices, but why don't you try looking here:
