Welcome to Year 2!
I am delighted to be teaching in Year 2 this year at Micklem Primary School. The children have made a great start to the academic year and I can't wait to see how they progress. In Year 2, we are joined by Mrs Miles, Miss Johnson and Miss Mackie. All staff have different roles throughout the year to support all the children as much as possible, demonstrating our three school values: Be Kind, Show Respect and Aim High. Please ensure your child is coming into school in the correct uniform with items labelled, reading book, reading record and coat.
Reading is essential in Year 2 , just as much listening to an adult read and discussing stories as listening to your child read daily. Asking lots of questions supports their comprehension, builds confidence with their writing. Children will have either fluency books which will be changed every Wednesday if read 3 times or more or a reading book which will be changed after the child is finished.
In Year 2 we have daily spelling and handwriting practice. Weekly spellings will be set as homework. Homework will be set on a Friday and due the following Wednesday. All logins will be available on the inside of your child's orange reading log.
Our Foundation Subjects are also incredibly important to us Year 2 and we will cover a wide range of topics throughout the year. In Autumn 1 in Science we are covering everyday materials and their properties.
In Autumn 1, PE is on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please make sure your child has a full PE kit, labelled and in school for every lesson please. We will be partaking in forest school in Autumn 1 and Spring 2
If you need any further information or have any questions, please catch me at the start or end of the day or if needed make an appointment. If there is an emergency, please contact the school office.
Thank you for your support,
Miss Durrant
