Reception

Welcome to Reception Class.

Your teachers are Miss Courtnell, Mrs Lopez and Mrs Tate

Our P.E. day is Thursday; please make sure your child has all their kit in school everyday as we may need to use it for other activities.

Each morning we have snack.  If you would like your child to have milk during this time, please inform the office. Please could you provide your child with a named water bottle.

Your child should have named wellington boots and indoor shoes that can be left in school in our boot box. This means that they can use the sand pit and mud kitchen as well the rest of our outdoor area, especially on rainy days!

Senses- We looked at our different senses. We tasted, smelt, listened, felt and looked.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

The Early Years Foundation Stage is organised into seven areas of learning;

-Communication and Language

-Physical Development

-Personal, Social and Emotional Development

-Literacy

-Mathematical Development

-Understanding the World

-Expressive Arts and Design

At Micklem we ensure we provide a well balanced play based curriculum, covering all areas of learning through child initiated and adult lead activities.

In order to track the children's learning and development we use an online Learning Journal called 'Tapestry'. Once the App is downloaded, parents have access to their child's online journal, they can add photographs and comments themselves and receive regular updates. We work closely with parents to assist in setting up the app and accessing their children's journal.

What can you do at home?

Each day your child will bring home a new reading book, please spend at least ten minutes reading this story with them and discussing what happens. Some ideas of questions you might ask:

  • Who went to the.... (shops/park/beach)?
  • Why did ..... (character name) do..... (an event that happened)?
  • How do you think... (character name) was feeling?
