Learning, achieving, working together

5th January 2021

Good morning Year One and a Happy New Year to you!

Firstly, I'd like to say thank you for all the Christmas presents, cards and good wishes I received and had the pleasure of opening on Christmas Day.  It was very kind of you to think of me and I was really touched.  I hope you all had a lovely holiday and enjoyed being with your family.

So we are now back to learning both at home and at school for some of you.  I will post on here until we go live on Seesaw - you will receive your passwords in the next day or so.  You will be able to send me your work on the website and I can mark it for you and give you feedback.  You will also be able to upload drawings, photos, short videos, as well as, written work, so it'll be a great site for us to be working on together.

Remember you can also go onto the following sites using the school passwords:

Phonics Play - Log-in: micklem  Password: purple (revise phase 3 and 4, we are currently working on phase 5).

Oxford Owl (the reading scheme we use is on this site) Log-in: micklem  Password: thanks (find your reading band colour and get reading!).

I will also be asking you to go to other websites as we continue to work through the next few weeks.  Parents please do not feel you have to print out everything - ink is expensive.

Maths: problem solving today.  Remember you are counting the legs and they have to add up to 12.  So I could for example, draw an elephant (4 legs), a cat (4 legs), a chicken (2 legs) and a parrot (2 legs).  What combinations of animals can you draw to add up to 12 legs in total?

English: Can you write a few sentences for me about something you did in the holidays that you really enjoyed.  Remember to give me 5!

Capital letters

Full stops

Finger spaces

Use your phonic knowledge

Can you read it to check it?

Phonics: see the worksheets

Science:  We will be learning about plants this term.  What do you know about plants, trees and flowers?  What is your favourite flower?  What plants do you have in your garden or do you see in the park?  You can take a photo of it to show me if you ask your parents!

Geography: We will be learning about the weather this term.  What different kinds of weather can you think of?  Look outside - what is the weather like today?

I have also loaded up some outdoor activities for you.  Have fun!

I will be checking my emails throughout the day, every day.  I will be able to come to back to you to help with any queries so please get in touch year1@micklem.herts.sch.uk.  I would also love to hear from you if you would like to show me what you have been doing at home too.

Stay safe everyone and happy learning!
