Learning, achieving, working together

Week Four (27th April)

Tuesday 28th April 2020

Good morning Year 6!

I hope that you found yesterday's learning interesting and that you managed to have a really good go.  I saw some evidence of some really nice work yesterday and saw a few of you interacting with the blog, which is great.

Today we are going to carry on our work with ratio and continue to use "Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them" for our English.

I see that some of you noticed that I made a mistake on one of the answers yesterday in the quick maths.  Can you believe it?!  If you noticed it - well done.  If not, can you spot where the mistake was?

This sheet has 3 challenges.  Pick which one you feel is suitable for you.  Try to think about the questions as ratio.  For example if it takes 30 minutes to cook 1kg of beef, the ratio would be 30:1.

So if you want to know how long to cook 2kg for, use the ratio 30:1.

30:1 = ?:2, what have you done to the one to get two?

Multiplied it by two, so do the same to the 30.

30 x 2 = 60.

English

Have a look at the picture below.  Does the creature look familiar?  What animal does it remind you of?

Now read the description below.  This creature has been inspired by a real animal and they have included the true story to add detail of how this creature really behaves.  Your task today is to take a real animal and turn it into a "Fantastic Beast" by adapting its features, how it behaves and how it is seen by muggles (non-magical humans).  Use your imagination and come up with something wild and fantastic!

Hi Year 6!

This week, learning is going to be a little different.  In maths, there will be some days where I show you some lesson slides, you might even be lucky enough to hear my voice!  In English, we will be carrying out some activities around part of a story which we will read together.

It has been great over the last few weeks to see what some of you have been up to but it would be even better if I could hear from more of you.  So check out the blog at https://micklemprimary.primarysite.blog/ and show me (and the rest of Year 6) what you have been learning and how you have been keeping busy.

For English, I would like you to watch this video.  We are going to start looking at a very special copy of "Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them".  It is an illustrated copy just like the "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" that we looked at on World Book Day.  It gives us lots of information (and some fantastic pictures) of the incredible creatures from the world of Harry Potter.  Today however, I am not going to show you too many pictures as I do not want to give too much away.  Watch the video, complete the tasks and make sure any work in English or maths that you are proud of gets on the blog.
