Year 2

Welcome to Year 2!

Our teachers are Mrs Cavender, Mrs Tate, Mrs Harvey, Miss Varney and Miss Edmunds.

We do PE on Monday and Wednesday and the children need to have their reading books in school every day.

This term we are looking forward to our topic called ‘At The Seaside’ in which we will be looking at the history of seaside holidays, learning about lighthouses and the people who work to keep us safe at sea and enjoying the stories of Mr Grinling The Lighthouse Keeper.

In Science we will be learning about growth and how to keep fit and well.

These links will give you some helpful information to support the science we will cover:

Homework Expectations

Please continue to read with your child as regularly as possible, ideally every night and make a note in the reading record. Book are changed daily, or when they have been read and the children are enjoying choosing their own books. Books which are sent home will be organized by a band colour, allowing your child to read them confidently. I will read a more challenging text with your child each week to monitor progress and teach skills.

Topic related homework will be set each week.

Spellings will continue to be sent home weekly we would encourage the children to look carefully at the word, write it down, check if they have remembered it correctly, rather than copy, which does not support the memory.

Mathletics – online maths homework will now be set on a Friday for completion by the following Wednesday. Each child has a login and this has been stapled to the inside of the reading diary. If you have any problems with this please let me know.

Homework will be sent home every Friday and should be returned to school by Wednesday at the latest.
