Welcome to Year 1
Welcome to a new year and a new class for your child. We have a great team of adults working in Year 1 made up of Mrs Rose, Mrs Waterton and myself, Mrs Stokley. On Monday afternoons Mrs Chelache teaches the children and on Tuesday afternoons the children are taught by Mrs Wheeler-King and Mrs Waterton.
We have an exciting final half term ahead of us where we will be developing our skills as 'story tellers'.
A Few Requests
The children should have their P.E. kits in school every week and all kit should be clearly named please. P.E. is on a Wednesday morning, however the children may need kit available at other times during the week. Can we also ask for all uniform, including coats, shoes and wellies to also be clearly named. The children also need a named water bottle to be kept in school throughout the week.
Reading with an adult is invaluable and we would appreciate it if you could read with your child daily and make a note in their reading record – it makes a huge difference to their progress and children will be rewarded for reading 5 times a week. If we can support you with this, please let us know. It is the children’s responsibility to change their books. Please let us know if this is not happening!
I would like to invite you to join us on Friday mornings to read with your child in school. We would love you to share a book and enjoy seeing the work in the classroom. This session will end at 9.15 a.m. for lessons to begin. I appreciate this may not be possible for all parents, but I promise there will be other times for you to come in and be with your child in school.
Lastly, please feel free to come and see me if you have any concerns or worries.
I look forward to working with you this year.
