Learning, achieving, working together

Year 1

Welcome to Year 1

Welcome to a new school year and a new class for your child.  We have a great team of adults working in Year 1 made up of Mrs Rose, Mrs Paprotny, Mrs Telha and myself, Mrs Stokley.

We have a busy term ahead (including a Christmas Production!) and our topic is ‘All about Me’.  We have planned a very exciting trip with Year 2 already!

A Few Requests

The children should have their P.E. kits in school every week and all kit should be clearly named please.  P.E. is on a Wednesday afternoon, however the children will need kit available at other times during the week. They will also be taking part in the Daily Mile so will need appropriate footwear.  Can we ask for all uniform, including coats, shoes and wellies to be clearly named.  This not only helps the children with their independence, but it is their responsibility to look after their own possessions.  The children also need a named water bottle to be kept in school throughout the week.

Reading with your child

Reading with an adult is invaluable and we would appreciate it if you could read with your child daily and make a note in their reading record – it makes a huge difference to their progress and children will be rewarded for reading 5 times a week.  If we can support you with this, please let us know.  It is the children’s responsibility to change their books.  Please let us know if this is not happening!

Homework

Homework will be given out on a Friday to be completed and returned the following Wednesday.  If there are any problems with your child doing their homework, then please let me know.

Lastly, please feel free to come and see me if you have any concerns or worries.

I’m really looking forward to teaching your child, getting to know them as a person and having a fun and exciting year with them.

Mrs Stokley
